Hello everybody! Yes. I'm still alive. Everything is good, just been very busy with work. I realized I haven't uploaded anything since January and written a journal since last September.

I'm currently in charge of several projects at the place I work, apart from operating the laser cutter.

You can find us on Facebook as XY Laser . The page is in Spanish, but we constantly update it with photographs of the current projects we are working on. We'd appreciate a like!

For now, we built a scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, which is roughly 1:312 scale. It measures 1.15m (3' ft 9" in) tall.

I'm developing scale models of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and the Torre Latinoamericana.

And on a personal note, I'm planning on building a replica of the Jurassic Park gates just in time for the Jurassic World movie opening in theaters. Also, adding to my list is the Courthouse Square form Back to the Future as it looked in 1955, the Bates Motel (House and motel) and the Tower of Terror of Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida.

Stay tuned!

New Job

1 min read
Just wanted to tell you that after a couple of months of doing nothing I finally landed a job. I was hired as a modeller for 3D printing, but for the moment being there are no projects, so I'm on another branch of the company that builds architectural scale models. I've been painting cars, sidewalks, and tiny people. It's so much fun, and better yet, I'm getting paid!

It feels good to finally start finding my way.

At last...

Finally, after 5 years, I graduate from university with a bachelor degree on animation and digital art. This journey has had it's ups and downs, as it should have, but in the end all the all nighters, stress and lots of coffee drinking were well worth it. Now the real challenge begins! But not all was bad stuff. I met my best friends during this period, so I had some people to rely on during the hard times.

On a side note, from April 30 to May 4, I worked as a staff member on CreativaFest, an animation and videogame industry event here in Mexico City. And by being staff, I managed to chat with some of the speakers:

*Ron Husband: Retired Disney Animator with aprox 30 years experience.
*Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh: Co-creator of Phineas and Ferb
*Armand Serrano: Visual development artist
*All the awesome artists from Ka-boom Studio

It was incredible to talk to all these incredibly talented people, and all the tips they gave us. I'll try to start applying them to my art.
I also got the autograph of Dean Cundey on a Jurassic Park tour vehicle card.

A small update on my 777 project. I'm almost done with the exterior model. all the flight surfaces have been modeled and cut. I need to fix a little thing on the wing. The main landing gear well and doors are ready. Next up... Nose gear doors and well, engine and pylon, flaps fairings, and landing gear. After that, I'll proceed to add the antennas, exterior lights sensors and windshield wipers. Then, after some exterior renders, it's interior modelling time...

Hope you have a great summer!

So... I saw recently that Sketchfab is now allowing embedding on DA journals. I'll give it a try with my 777 low poly model...

Hope you like it!

On other news... It's just a little under 2 months 'till my graduation form university!

The Last one

Finally, it's that time...

This is my last semester in college. I'll graduate in May with a bachelor in Animation and Digital Art. I'm so excited! This will be the semester to go big or go home!

Here's a little rundown of my final courses:

*Communication regulations: Basically all the legal stuff you need to know, before getting into the entertainment business.
*Computer assisted drawing: Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit.
*Introduction to professional life: Here we'll write our CV's and learn tricks for job interviews
*Physical Interfaces: We'll learn to work with sensors, servos, etc.

Also, I'll be working about 13 hours a week on my demo reel. I'll try to fit in some time to draw, which I haven't been able to do in a long time.

Hope you had a great start for this 2014. Let's make this the best year ever, shall we?
